The makings of a resume.
Stratagem resource managers are well skilled at crafting resumes;
however they need your help. The information you supply helps to define you.
So the better that information is the better we can present you to the clients.
Here are some hints on putting your resume together.
Who am I?
You should clearly state your full name and contact details. You can include a preferred
name if you like. This can lead to a friendlier atmosphere in an interview. Your contact
details should include a contact phone number than can be used in normal work ours - perhaps your mobile.
Include your email address if you have one.
What skills do I have?
Here you list the types of hardware you have worked on. What software languages and application
packages you are familiar with. If you have special skills like tender evaluation they can be mentioned here.
What formal training have I had?
This is any formal training such as a tertiary degree, Novell or Microsoft courses.
List the name of the course and the year it was completed.
What am I currently doing?
Your current (or most recent) position is most important to a potential client. Be sure to
include any special skills required for this position. This section tends to have more
detail than information from previous positions.
What have I done in the past?
While your most recent skills are the most important, you should give a brief description
of you past positions. Concentrate on the most important aspect of the positions. Positions more
than five years old, or not related to IT can usually by summarized in one or two sentences.
References?
A potential employer will expect to verify information provided at an interview.
Up-to-date referees and their contact details are important. Be sure to speak to
your potential referees and ensure they are still willing to act as references. Ideally, these
people should be from your recent employment.
How long is my resume?
Most clients will receive between 5 and 50 applications for a positions. Each will be
accompanied by a resume. If your resume is too long, critical information may be missed as
the client scans it. A good resume should be between 5 and 7 pages. This gives scope for
detail without overloading the potential client. Concentrate on your recent employment history.
